Jammu, Jun 23 (KNO): Heavy rainfall in the upper hills of Jammu region has triggered a landslide on Himkoti track leading to the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Reasi.
The incident, which occurred earlier today, has prompted authorities to temporarily close the route as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the operations of battery cars and other vehicles carrying goods and supplies remained suspended due to closure of the track.
No casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the landslide. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in coordination with local authorities, has swiftly mobilized teams to assess the situation and clear debris from the affected area.
The closure of the Himkoti track is temporary, and pilgrims are being guided to use alternate routes to continue their journey to the holy shrine safely, officials said.
“The safety of devotees is our top priority. We are working diligently to restore access to the Himkoti track as soon as possible while ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place,” said an official spokesperson from the Shrine Board.
The Shrine Board has also advised pilgrims to stay updated on weather conditions and follow official advisories before planning their visit. Regular updates regarding the reopening of the Himkoti track will be provided through official channels—(KNO)
